Well, we had a great time during our two days at the National Museum of Naval Aviation. The museum owns three N3N aircraft, one is on loan to (and onboard) the USS Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi, Texas. As currently displayed, the two Pensacola aircraft appear to be flying in formation. Here is my “formation” picture:
I didn’t realize that 2014 is the 100th anniversary of naval aviation, as celebrated by this banner on the exterior wall of the museum:
There was lots to see. As a Michigander, I was particularly impressed by the number of aircraft that they have recovered from Lake Michigan and have restored. They have a special exhibit where they show video of the Wolverine and the Sable – the two training carriers on Lake Michigan. Most of the training flights were out of Glenview or Great Lakes.
The Blue Angels arrived on Monday, but we did not see their arrival. They will be flying a full schedule this year.
